If the pet was in YOUR yard, you have legal recourse to have the attacking animal put down/or at least for the owner to receive warning. You can call the police and file an official report. You canfile against your neighbor in small claims court later, remember to bring the police report with you.Maybecontact your local SPCA or Humne society for advice? (You can also call local media if you want to take it to the next level...) Have you talk to your neighbors yet? Did they apologize for what happened? I would think twice before I call animal control - your neighbor's dog would most likely to be put down if you call. And I honestly don't think it was the dog's fault - it was your neighbor who did not handle his dog properly, knowing there's potential risk thatthe dogmay kill little animal/kid/older people.... I am very sorry for your loss... My friend lost a cat just like thatabout a year ago....sad thing is no matter what you do, nothing will bring your beloved pet back ....
